The Youth Institute:
.
The Youth Institute exists as a catalyst to bring together youth research and youth practice in South Africa and the developing world for the benefit of youth living in poverty. It bridges the gap between what we know and what we do. It does so through pursuing four aims:
1. KNOW: TYI provides information and knowledge about who is doing what, and with what effect in the youth and poverty arena. It encourages research from the developing world and South African context. More
.
3. INNOVATE: TYI is an incubator for innovative youth interventions. It pilots groundbreaking programmes for youth living in poverty, documents successes and then puts these strategies 'in a tin' for other youth organisations to implement in an effort to do youth work at scale. It also provides technical assistance and capacity building. More
2. REPAIR:TYI helps individuals and organisations understand the lasting and debilitating effects of inequality and injustice on young people in South Africa - in order to repair the past. It focuses on distinguishing between various types of justice (retributive, restorative and socio-economic) and highlights human and social responses to guilt, and the need for individual and corporate restitution. More
.
4. CIRCULATE: Finally, TYI circulates knowledge about young people and their circumstances, with special emphasis on the Global South. It aids developing countries to contextualise knowledge and programmes and to circulate great interventions. More
